I'll be writing about a couple of things today. To begin with, being a first year at The Maharaja's Womens' college it's just been only a few days since I've got out of all the hype at the place of admission .To be more precise, the office. I was waiting for my turn at the office along with another 500 who were waiting there for the same cause.I thought I'll go and check the list they have put .Towards the end of the list ,four names were written all of which were SCST and in brackets it was also mentioned that they were exempted from giving the aptitude test .Aren't we all trying to forget about the fact that castes exist. Well we indians say that we have to remove castes and religion in order to live more happily. On the other hand we help the SCST's by making their job easier. Do they become another species just by being an SCST, because if they can be given admission by getting exempted from the aptitude test then why can't I ? The matter here is not about justice. I will only be proud to be selected because of my marks and qualifications, but aren't we people responsible for increasing the problems instead of working towards the solution. By helping the SCST groups aren't we try to make it more visible that they do exist. That shows we still do have castes prevailing everywhere. If they are treated the same just like the 'normal' castes , I don't think we would be struggling for removing castism out of our country. All problems are connected.

September 14 , 2007 .I turn eighteen today. A Major.I've got voting rights. My signature will be valued.I am a responsible girl today. Happy birthday to me!

P.S. : SCST are Scheduled castes and Scheduled tribes

Thanks for dropping by & commenting on my blog. As a listener, i do respect your opinion that he is a good singer/composer.
But having done something like more-than-listening but actually analyzing his music, i feel he tries to imitate Kishore Kumar's (not his voice) style of approach towards a song. His compositions have a strong flavour of 80's songs of R.D.Burman with ample usage of Tabla and counter-melodies on string section (R.D's trademark).
If Adnan can hold unto something on his own, it is his Piano..his style of playing Piano. I dont recall anything who can play Indian raagas on Piano, without losing the essence. He is best at that and he should be doing more of that

belated happy birthday! :)
have a wonderful year ahead, God bless.

no matter how hard u try, we can't do anything about these castes. India doesn't go anywhere until these reservations are removed! It only the SCST who is getting all the benefits here.

peace & love

k its ur bday.. first of all happy birthday... have a great bday..
regarding ur post... this is the problem everywhere... thts why when the antiquota protests were goin on by all the medicos, we were urging people frm other colleges to also come forward.. well we dint get enuff support..
and this is the state of the country.. by giving such reservations, we produce students of substandard aptitudes, the govt. is spoiling the people's future by all this reservation system .. not only open canditates also SC/ST canditates..

btw nice blog..

Aha.. Now ur eyes open Neha ji?? This is an im-mortal issue..! Learn 2 jus put it aside! ST's do deserve it, cos they are not given the basic educational facilities, its good that they r considerd equally. But institutes like IITs, NITs, AIIMS n others...including ur music cllg.. mus stray away from this, cos its quality what they want. Atleast, they can be exempted ! Tats all i have to say....
I have faced it in lotsa spot admission to NITs...losng to an SC.. It sucks!
The only possible solution is the income..instead of SC/ST... if income is very low, that means he/she mus hav suffered to get elementary education, then give dem privileges, but not everyone.

Vikas: I think colleges are just forced to give seats especially Govt. colleges, because the govt. orders them too. I know one person who is very rich (an NRI) who got his seat at a subsidised payment because he was an SCST. He is rich, well brought up,but the SCST tag got him his seat unlike others who struggled day an night at coaching centres for that one seat.

Neha,

First my belated wishes. I could understand your feelings. There are lots of changes that needs to be done in Indian Political system. We need to understand our History as well. People were divided according to the jobs they were doing and thus came Caste system. We need to understand they were treated very badly in the past. It is good that the Governments wanted to uplift the backward societies. I agree with Vikas comments. The Governments should do everything to uplift their economy status by granting extra monetary benefits but should reconsider in other areas like admissions. There are economically backward people in the so called Forward castes too. We all have suffered a lot in the past due to these. We could not do much. We did have good friends from every communities. There should not be any social injustices. As you have said, they should reconsider in alloting seats for those who are richer and belong to backward castes. I knew few of my friends who were richer and belonged to BC's and sailed smoothly in obtaining seats in professional colleges, and very well off. The worst part is they no more want to be identified as BC's by their own people and are bossing those innocents of BC's. For example, take all those ones, who claim themselves as Leaders of the suppressed. Just look into their assets. They would have piled up millions worth of land and building and must be having their kith and kin in developed countries. They still keep fooling those innocent people.

Time will come. We should try to work for a system where everyone should be given equal chance irrespective of their caste, colour, religion. A day will come.
Probably we may not be alive then.

Your articles are good..

My view on this...

What is "Nair" in your name? (This shows we still do have castes prevailing everywhere)

"Aren't we all trying to forget about the fact that castes exist"

Just think...
