The Other Side

Often we tend to sympathize the sufferer. What about the other side?
Situation 1 : A criminal is being hanged to death. Of course limelight is given to the victim. Have we wondered what the hangman goes through?
Situation 2 :A rape victim being tried. Habituated, we obviously think of who performed this horrendous act and how he should be punished or what compensation should be given to the victim. We never think about what caused the man to rape the victim. Survey says that women themselves are responsible for 60% of the rape cases taking place.
Situation 3:Now if we have a witness for a murder scene(For eg. the Jessica Lal case) .The witness, according to the law is asked to assemble in order to speak out the truth. In many cases we notice that the witness happens to shy away from revealing the truth. So all of us jump ahead saying the witness should be punished, he is cruel, heartless, useless, etc. But we seldom think about what the witness is going through. Put yourself in the position of the witness. Would you actually go up and speak the truth? Would you even assemble at the court? It is very obvious that our personal decisions never remain personal and are always influenced by our friends, relatives,or our dearest ones. And remember 'Practice what you preach'.Ciao!

Nice thoughtful post...Yeah, it is the reality & we all just have two selves. We say something from outside but when the same thing comes to haunt us, we just try to run away from reality. You have very rightly highlighted the other faces of the situations also, which you have described, and which just stays away from the limelight!

well, people sympathise with ease but empathy requires much more.

Thought provoking.

Mostly, incidents and events are discussed. Only rarely are the reasons or thoughts behind such events thought of.

hmm..its easy to think as a third person but i guess ppl understand the turmoil of the victim dats y the more sympathy nd then trying to dig reasons for the cause of culprit's provocation dassan't make victim suffer any less...

nd for the jhappi.anytime :-)

what you say is true..i have always maintained that the solution is created before the problem....in this the acts were the solution, since we already know about them....but seriously we need have something to know if the victim as innocent or was responsible for the crime in some way...

Good subject but dissapointin situation 2. I agree with 1 and 3 though. No forgiveness for horrendous crime like rape.

Nice post Neha. What you said is true to a major extent. In fact, in my observation over the years, I try to think both side's feelings. In many cases, we do find that it is not either person's fault. Situations and circumstances might have caused a bad thing to happen when each act be justified individually.

I like this post although I have a tonne of trouble with rape being the victim's fault.....However, it is always essential to look at both sides of every issue.

Good post!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment at my site.

Hey! Nice post!!! Here are some more situations -
Situation 1 - What happens to the criminal's family? They lose a loved one, and then they have to live with the stigma of being a criminal's relatives all their lives!

Situation 2:Rapists usually are those who have absolutely no moral thinking. Even if the survey is right, can you imagine the physical and mental pain of a rape victim?

Situation 3: What happens after the witness bravely testifies? Does he have to live in eternal fear of being killed or attacked?

Finally, would I testify against a murder? Yes I would. But with a strategy in place to safeguard myself and my family and my property.

Gandhiji practiced what he preached - and he was known by all and is loved by all. Today's politicians preach and don't practice - so nobody loves them!!

crazybugga: I was not supporting the criminal was just highlighting somethings most of us ignore knowing. There are cases where women have provoked the men , but not the majority.

Why doesnt it work? Testifying for murder and protecting loved ones from danger are two different things and I think it's the smart way to do it...How is it absurd? Do you mean to say we testify without worrying about the repercussions?

Ananth: Nothing is impossible.Only that practically it is impossible especially when you have politics being played right from the White house to the beggars on the street.People testify at their own risk.I have hardly seen people testifying. But like i said, nothing is impossible.

I like that situation 2 and the situation 3 in India is sort of a difficult proposition. Reason, you never know who in your family would be attacked by the gundas, police whoever it is. Reason you testified against somebody.

Why this happens in India, is not about nothing is impossible, but it is because the law is so lopsided however you see it. no one cares for the guy who testified against someone. Do you remember talking and knowing about a guy who testified against someone? We talk about the perpetrators and their crimes. That is how short the memory is so with that context, the person going to testify against someone is going to be under immense pressure .
